OUR LAST THEKLA PARTY!
Indeed, it's not only the last Square One party of the year but also our last party at the Thekla as we've decided to have a well-earned rest for a while. It will be a sad evening for us, so we've invited back some of our favourite guests from our Thekla parties to raise the roof once more and go out with a bang...
First up, the inimitable Soul Jazz Soundsystem. This is our fourth party with the Soul Jazz crew and we're looking forward to this one just as much as the first. Actually, we're much more excited because we now know what's in store! Their winning formula of killer tunes and a proper party spirit has guaranteed a roadblock affair and a heaving dance floor each time they've visited the Thekla. Expect the staple Soul Jazz diet of Reggae, Ska, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Disco, and a side order of Ragga Jungle!
We also welcome back JSTAR - undisputed king of the Hip Hop/Reggae mash-up. With everyone from Blackstreet to Scissor Sisters getting his re-rub treatment, JSTAR is a man whose passion for music obviously knows no bounds. His inspired, strictly limited 7" blends (and his elusive identity!) continue to excite everyone, including the legendary Don Letts, who was very impressed to find he was playing alongside him at our party in June. On offer will be his choice mix of Hip Hop, Dancehall, Reggae, Funk, and some live melodica thrown in for good measure. He'll be joined once more by expert hype man and bad ass dancer MC Honey Brown, who also MC's for UK Hip Hop heavyweight Mark B.
Getting the party started downstairs will be our very own Mr Benn, who will be showing us exactly why his latest 'Square One Sound' mix CD was broadcast on Ninja Tune's highly respected Solid Steel radio show. It really is rather good. Come hear.
The top deck cafe will be in the very capable hands of G Pirelli and the Empiricist DJs, who will be playing a whole host of musical niceness. Mr Pirelli can count Jazzy Jeff amongst his fans and was recently signed to massive New York Hip Hop label AV8 - the boy done good! The past few years have seen the Empiricist DJs rocking many a dance floor across the city, building up an impressive reputation as consistent party starters - we're excited to have them on-board! Visual treats will be supplied by the ever-ready UnReel Media as usual.
